The Costa Dorada is south of Costa Brava to Tarragona and is about 6 283 km2 with 786 hectares of beaches. Costa de Dorada is less rugged than the Costa Brava with flat golden beaches. The sand is fine and clear shallow water. The capital is Tarragona, and it has 10 counties and 183 municipalities. The marine littoral is 216km long. There are also peaceful towns and farmland where there are olive groves, hazel, carobs, almond trees and vegetables.
It has temperate Mediterranean climate with clear, sharp atmosphere and skies of intense blue in the winter. This is caused by the Mestrai winds that blow from the northeast. In summer there is the Garbi winds that blow from the south-east. The temperatures average 7c - 10c in winter and 20c-26c in summer. Its gets an average rainfall of 375mm-700mm per annum.
